Tolland County resident Joel Kerr, age 66, of Vernon, was found dead on Sunday, June 11 inside a home at 144 Hany Lane in Vernon.
According to Lt. Robert Marra of the Vernon Police, firefighters overhauling the house after the fire was extinguished found Kerr inside the home.
Members of the Vernon Police Detective Division, the State Police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit, and The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner responded to assist with processing the scene.
The wildly popular K104.7 Cupcake Festival, which has been held on Main Street in Fishkill for all of its five-year history, is moving to Beacon this year and will be held Saturday, May 6, from 1 to 5 p.m.
Fishkill residents have already started to voice their displeasure on Facebook group pages about losing one of the best events of the year.
Daily Voice has learned that when K104 made this year's request for the venue, Fishkill Village Police requested a change of site - as an alternative to closing down Main Street.
Early unconfirmed reports said as many as four vehicles were involved in the crash near Lighthouse Drive just before 2 p.m., a fire department dispatcher said.

The incident took place in Suffolk County around 1:20 a.m., Tuesday, June 20, at the Cuba Hill Road railroad crossing in the Huntington hamlet of Greenlawn.
The individual, who has not yet been identified, was struck by an eastbound train, said MTA officials.
Train service was delayed for two hours, with normal travel returning around 3:30 a.m.
The MTA Police investigation is ongoing.
