While the technique isn't a new one, burn-away cakes started going viral on TikTok in early 2024, Eater reports.
Justin Ellen, a 21-year-old Passaic baker who you may recognize from Netflix, was inspired to make his "Mean Girls" themed burn-away cake after seeing Denise Steward's New Year's cake go viral.
"It seems intimidating, but it isn't," Ellen said. "It's super, super simple."
Ellen explained how burn-away cakes are made.
"First, you get a frosting sheet and put down your cake as normal.
The wreck happened Friday, Jan. 5, on the I-87 Northway in Warren County, between Warrensburg and Lake George.
State Police said a Skyway Coach Line tour bus was traveling from Montreal, Canada to New York City when it rolled over in the southbound lanes near exit 23 at around 12:50 p.m.
Of the 23 people onboard, one person was killed and another was flown to Albany Medical Center in critical condition.
According to her obituary, Kayleigh had been working as a waitress since getting her GED "but had so much more potential than time allowed."
Kayleigh was being remembered for her kindness, compassion and "big beautiful heart."

LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) – Atlas Music Publishing, which was recently acquired by Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings, has announced a joint venture with legendary producer Quincy Jones and his company Quincy Jones Productions.
Atlas CEO Richard Stumpf, who founded the music publishing company in 2013, first administered Jones’ catalog while at Cherry Lane Music in the mid-2000s alongside current Atlas COO/Partner Phil Cialdella.
