Josephine Spano, the mother of Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and former New York State Sen. Nicholas A. Spano, died on Wednesday morning, Dec. 6 at the age of 89, according to an announcement by Mayor Spano's office.
In a statement, Spano said that his mother helped give him and his siblings the drive to succeed.
"We all just wanted to make her so proud," Spano said, adding, "She inspired us. She educated us.
Pursued by Totowa police, the gas-powered scooter driven by David Lucero, 28, of Paterson was racing north on McBride Avenue along Pennington Park on Sept. 20, 2023 when the driver of an oncoming Lexus sedan made a left in front of him. The moped slammed into the side of the vehicle, knocking both riders nearly 10 feet into the air over the car.
One of them landed in the middle of the street, the other outside a Conoco gas station (see black-and-white photo at top of story).

In a post to her social media, Nena wrote: “I don’t want to talk about it for long. My tour in 2022 will not take place. And I won’t move it a second time either. I stand by my statement: ALL PEOPLE are WELCOME to a Nena concert.
WASHINGTON D.C. (CelebrityAccess) – Just a week after the revelation of Washington D.C. newest concert venue, The Atlantis, the venue’s operator, I.M.P., announced that more than half a million tickets have already been requested for the club’s 44 show inaugural concert lineup.
The 450-capacity club, which opens at 2047 9th St NW after a $10 million refurb of the property, will officially open its doors on May 30th when Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters take the stage.
